Cast & Characters

As per IMDb’s credits, Roopa Ganguly, Arpan Ghoshal, and Swikriti Majumder are listed among the key cast members. Over time, the show’s cast expanded to include several well-known Bengali names as core and supporting players.

From the Nettv4u cast list, notable names involved in Meyebela are:

  • Swikriti Majumder (as Mohona / Mou)
  • Arpan Ghoshal
  • Roopa Ganguly (played Bithika Mitra)
  • Anushree Das (later replaced Roopa in Bithi’s role)
  • Biplab Banerjee
  • Chitra Sen
  • Sreya Bhattacharya
  • Shaon Chakraborty, Shreya Bhattacharya, Nabonita Dey, Mimi Dutta, Animesh Bhaduri, Soume Chatterjee, Sahana Sen, and others in supporting roles

Roopa Ganguly’s involvement was notably significant (as a veteran actress) but she later left the show citing disagreements, which led to a reshuffle in casting.

Timing & Broadcast

Meyebela premiered on 23 January 2023 on Star Jalsha. It was originally aired Monday through Sunday at 07:30 PM on the channel.

However, the show later underwent a time‐slot change. Reports stated that it was pushed out of its prime 7:30 PM slot to an earlier or less favorable timing, as the channel planned to introduce another serial, Sandhya Tara. The transition was met with friction between the production house and the channel.

There were strong speculations that the show would wrap up if the disagreement wasn’t resolved. Indeed, as of mid-2023, news outlets were reporting that Meyebela was approaching its conclusion.

Storyline & Synopsis

Meyebela opens with Bithi (Bithika Mitra), a middle-aged housewife whose life is shaped by sacrifice and routine. She has always put her family before herself, often sidelining her own aspirations.

After her son gets married, his wife Mohona (Mou) becomes the daughter-in-law of the Mitra family. Mohona, with good intentions, tries to bring joy and fulfill Bithi’s unfulfilled desires—such as arranging a trip to Darjeeling for Bithi. But the relationship starts off on a rocky note: Bithi resists these gestures, perhaps due to pride, past hurts, or misunderstandings.

As time progresses, the show explores how Bithi and Mohona’s relationship transforms—from tension, skepticism, and distance, to possible friendship and mutual respect. The core conflict lies in bridging generational gaps, past grievances, ego, and willingness to change. The evolving bond between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law is central to this drama.

Complications arise when casting changes, external pressures, and production issues mirror the internal tensions in the narrative itself. The departure of Roopa Ganguly (who originally played Bithi) was tied to her objections to certain content, further stirring controversy around the show’s direction.
