The Malayalam television serial Manthrikam has captured viewers’ imagination with its blend of supernatural elements and drama. A dubbed adaptation of the Hindi show Nazar, it brings a dark fantasy flavor to the Malayalam small screen.

Manthrikam features a wide ensemble of actors. The original Hindi version Nazar was created by Gul Khan and Mrinal Jha — these names are credited in the Malayalam version as well.

At its launch, the serial recorded a TRP of 2.70 TVR in its opening week. That was considered a decent start, showing interest in supernatural/fantasy content on Malayalam TV.
📖 Storyline & Plot
The central plot of Manthrikam revolves around a powerful witch or daayan named Mohana, who is over 251 years old. She dwells deep in the forest and sustains herself by feeding on the life forces of innocent humans.
Mohana marries a businessman named Mridul Rathod and uses her dark arts to help him gain wealth and influence. They have two children: Ansh and Kajal.
But the story takes a dramatic turn when Mridul himself falls victim to Mohana’s evil powers and dies. After his death, his sister-in-law Vedashree and a man named Shekhar adopt Ansh and Kajal. The children grow up in the city (Mumbai in the original), living with relatives.
Vedashree, determined to protect her nieces/nephews, seeks the help of Divya, a woman endowed with divine powers, to battle Mohana’s supernatural strength. Using mantras and spiritual methods, Divya ultimately attempts to imprison or banish Mohana.
Thus, Manthrikam weaves a classic good-vs-evil supernatural drama, where the forces of light (Vedashree, Divya) confront the dark sorcery embodied by Mohana. The story explores themes of family, sacrifice, supernatural powers, and the question: can love, faith, and courage overcome ancient curses and malevolent magic?
